I've just been a little busy.

But now, steadfast blog reader, friends, internets... It's time once again for my annual blog redesign! I'm sure you'll find this year's changes to your liking. I've rid the page of all clutter and distraction (even title) to help ensure that the content is the focus.

So, most of the content is already up and reformatted as you read this. The store is still on the way (promise!), and I'm in the process of adding some more Venture Bros. designs. Oh, and I'll be posting some new artwork shortly so check back soon!

Tulum Gallery is proud to present PulpO, an eight-person exhibition of new drawings and paintings by New York based artists in animation, illustration, and the fine arts. Showing together in a variety of styles and media, these seven artists draw from their backgrounds as representational artists to cultivate narratives influenced by pulp and comic-art traditions. Themes like science fiction, war, horror, the occult, exploitative stories, sensational iconography, and adventure are interpreted by this group with surreal, whimsical, and abstract flourishes.

It's that time again! The 4th annual fine art exhibit for the animation industry Too Art for TV 4 opens tomorrow night! This year's show will be even bigger than the last. There are so many talented artist contributing it just boggles the mind.

I'll be exhibiting two original paintings and I'll have tee-shirts for sale on opening night- two designs (above) in men's & women's S/M/L.

I don't post my Nickelodeon work on here very often, but I'm making an exception this one time. A few months ago I was fortunate enough to digitally paint SpongeBob for the cover of Animation Magazine's August issue. It was a lot of fun, and, now that it's August, I can finally post it! Some time ago (a little over a year now) I pitched an animated show idea to some development folks at Nick. Since then I've continued, in my spare time, to develop and fine tune its characters and story.

This is the main character below- or at least this is his most current incarnation.

I bought a Nintendo Wii a few months ago. I also got the new Zelda game. Above is a character from that game who's design I liked so much that I suggested she be a the subject for last week's (two weeks ago, actually) drawing challenge- over at The Weekly Wednesday Drawing Challenge blog.

I don't think we're posting anything this week, but here's my end of the "Midna" post!!

It's been a while since I posted something here. I'd like to change that.

Here's a rough color-test for Sheena. She's not so much on-model here. I'm just trying to work out the color, and the style- trying to keep it simple without being cartoony. Kind of taking a page, visually, from the last Lucas I did. The Sheena head sketch at bottom right is probably the closest to the final design in my head.

Midway thru designing season two, we'd gotten our cintiq screens and had slowly, episode by episode, begun to make our rough designs more and more detailed. Working straight into photoshop had given us the advantage to work more quickly and in full color- deadlines permitting. Eventually, our rough designs were vivid, full-color reflections of our imagination. I think we started to hit our stride around "Escape to The House of Mummies".
